Asteroid 99942 Apophis is a massive near-Earth object that will fly past Earth on April 13, 2029, when it will be visible to the naked eye for about 2 billion people as it streaks across the night sky. Discovered in 2004, it initially garnered attention due to its high rating (4!) on the Torino impact hazard scale. Subsequent observations have significantly altered that rating for the time being. Regardless, it remains a once-in-a-generation opportunity to study a large asteroid up close. 00:00 Apophis Flyby 2029 01:30 Discovery & Threat of Apophis 03:00 2021 Observations 03:51 Gravitational Interaction during Earth Flyby 05:45 ESA & NASA Observations 07:00 How to Spot Apophis in the Night Sky?
