Security forces detained scores of young protesters in Delhi on 10 October as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-led pressure group, called its second major protest. The CJP first made headlines when it demanded the resignation of India's education minister over alleged irregularities in medical examinations. After weeks of demonstrations, the minister eventually resigned. This time, the group is demanding the resignation of India's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar, amid growing controversy over an exercise to revise the country's electoral rolls. The BBC's Ishadrita Lahiri, Antariksh Jain and Aryan Mahtta were on the ground at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi, where the CJP had staged its previous protest and planned to gather once again. Instead, they witnessed mass police detentions, protesters who said they were determined to continue their campaign, and extensive security restrictions across parts of the city centre. #abhijeetdipke #dipke #ashutoshranka #sa
